What to do and see in Fasano

Fasano is placed over the slope of the south-east part of the Murge. The historic center is characterized by small streets, white lime walls, arches and little squares.

Seat of old large farms, this tourist destination is appreciated by families on holiday with children.

What to do in Fasano

The Fasano Safarizoo and Fasanolandia, a tourist complex that includes also a zoo garden and an entertainment park, covers a surface of 30 hectares and houses over 3000 example of animals belonging to different species.

The area can be visited, in complete safety, with your own vehicle. Along the safari circuit, you can see giraffes, Tibetan bear, zebras, monkeys and more. The tourist train, on the contrary, covers an inner path that includes the visit to the educational pole; a stop in an oasis with a waterfall and rare examples, the puppet theatre and a stop-over in a small farm where courtyard animals live.

Parco di Egnazia, with its Archaeological Museum, shows findings of the archeological excavations. In the hills, there are many typical large farms.

 

What to see in Fasano

Fasano is rich of monuments, castles and towers. The main church, is for example entitled to San Giovanni Battista, saint patron of the city. The façade was realized with tuff in the late Renaissance period. In the countryside there is the ancient Parco Rupestre Lama the biggest settlement in Apulia. On the flanks of the swords a village with a religious building was built. The swords are river paths excavated by the meteoric waters. The path of the rivers starts from the Murge and arrives to the sea.

A really important event is called Scamiciata. It is the historical remembrance, celebrated every year on June 2nd to remember the victory over the Turks, in 1678. Through the streets of the city musicians, flag-throwers, jesters walk.

Another important monument to see is the Minareto. The historical building was realized in 1918 by Damaso Bianchi and realized in the typical oriental style expression of the eclectic architecture. The tower dominates the entire city of Fasano.
