What to do and to see in Torre Canne

Torre Canne is a palette.

The fine and white beach covers 8 kilometers of coast and arrives until Pilone, the beachfront is rich in dunes covered with juniper. The small village, in the province of Brindisi, is not far form Fasano. Its history is intimately related to the mineral waters whose sources are two little rivers: the biggest “Fiume grande” and the smallest “Fiume piccolo” that surround the ancient guard tower. The XVI century monument was built to monitor the Turks. The natural park of the Coastal Dunes is an elaborate scenery which manifests the power and beauty of nature.

What to do in Torre Canne

In the boulevard of Riviera dei Trulli, occupied by conifers and tamarisks, a thermal facility has its seat composed by eleven underground aquifers. The most important are the springs “Torricella” and “Antesana”.

The therapeutic properties of the waters are appropriate for the cure of respiratory diseases, ear disease, blood circulation. For orthopedic and rheumatic pathologies the mud-balneotherapy is suggested. The curative silt is formed by sediments: the debris, carried by the mineral waters in little lakes, have created a sort of sediment gathered in a remote deposit.

Families with children can spend free time in a nice excursion to the safari zoo in Fasano. The itinerary by car allows to go close to many animals: tigers, lions, camels and many other species. In the park, which brings back up their natural habitat, many beautiful specimens of the world savage fauna live.

Alberobello is nearby. The characteristic Trulli, famous all over the world, attract many tourists for their architecture. Every year, on the second Saturday and Sunday of August, the Sagra of pesce spada (Swordfish Festival) is celebrated. It is an event which keeps alive flavours, folklore and the good Apulian wine.

What to see in Torre Canne

The neighbouring areas of Torre Canne are famous for lame, an ancient proof of the karstic phenomenon. Once, cracks directed meteoric waters from Altopiano delle Murge to the basin to which they belonged. Nowadays, they are covered by evergreen arboreal species. Along the path, it is possible to admire ancient human settlements which gave birth to admirably beautiful cave villages. Torre Canne shields fine beauties, like the historic large farms called masserie, the Via Aurelia, the Montalbano Dolmen, a single room prehistorical stone sepulchre.

The Museum of olive oil is a space devoted to the tradition’s flavours. It is a site where the smallest details are defined and it is full of ancient tools. In Torre Canne there is also the National Museum and Egnazia Archaelogical Park: the site safeguards precious Roman and Apulian finds.
